May 17, 2019 – Ottawa, ON – The Government of Canada is committed to helping provinces adjust to pressures in delivering interim housing solutions. To assist British Columbia, the Government will provide $6 million to address costs associated with temporary housing for asylum claimants.

May 17, 2019—Ottawa, ON—The Government of Canada is committed to a well-managed asylum system that’s fair, fast and final. Effective today, Canada is removing all countries from the designated country of origin (DCO) list, which effectively suspends the DCO policy, introduced in 2012, until it can be repealed through future legislative changes.

The Government of Canada remains committed to working collaboratively with provinces and municipalities to help deal with the pressures they face with respect to providing temporary housing to asylum claimants.
